Pulse peels are performed specifically for sun damaged skin and actinic keratoses. In the pulse peel, a glycolic acid solution is applied to the face, followed by 5-fluorouracil cream. 5-FU cream is a topical chemotherapeutic cream that targets pre-cancerous cells in the skin (actinic keratoses). A series of four to six pulse peels is usually required before a noticeably smoother skin texture is seen. Pre-cancerous actinic keratoses are targeted and destroyed before they have a chance to develop into skin cancer.
