BOTOX® Cosmetic
BOTOX® Cosmetic is the most popular non-surgical aesthetic enhancement treatment available, and has proven effective at rejuvenating the face and diminishing signs of age and fatigue. Designed to improve the appearance of frown lines, wrinkles, crow’s feet, and other signs of aging, BOTOX® Cosmetic is made of a highly diluted form of botulinum toxin type-A. Since wrinkling is typically formed by muscle contraction in areas of the face, the solution works by temporarily paralyzing muscles in the treatment area, effectively stopping them from forming fine lines and wrinkles. This leads to a smoothing out of those areas and a more refreshed and youthful appearance.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected with a thin needle into the areas targeted for treatment. A numbing agent can be applied before injection to ensure a more comfortable experience during the procedure. The entire treatment takes about 15 to 30 minutes.
Although some redness, swelling, and bruising may occur in the treatment areas after the procedure, this should disappear over the next few days. Patients are generally able to resume normal daily routines immediately after treatment. The results of BOTOX® Cosmetic usually last about three to six months. Follow-up treatment sessions can help maintain the effects for a longer period.
Dysport®
Dysport® is an effective injectable treatment with many similarities to BOTOX® Cosmetic. Composed of a highly diluted form of botulinum toxin type-A, Dysport® smoothes out wrinkles and signs of age in the face by temporarily preventing facial muscles from contracting in the areas targeted for treatment. Dysport® can work wonders at improving the appearance of lines along the forehead and creases around the eyes and between the eyebrows. Our dermatologist will inject Dysport® using a very fine needle in the treatment areas. A topical numbing solution can be used on the skin before treatment in order to minimize discomfort. The entire procedure usually lasts only about 15 to 30 minutes.
There is typically no downtime after treatment with Dysport®; however, patients may have some redness and swelling after the procedure. These side effects should fade within a few days. The results of Dysport® can last up to six months, and they can be maintained for an even longer period with follow-up treatment.
