Actinic Keratosis

Actinic keratosis is a condition characterized by scaly, rough patches on the skin. These areas of skin damage are caused by overexposure to the sun, and they can ultimately lead to dangerous skin cancers if left untreated. Most skin cancers can be prevented by using sun and ultraviolet protection; however, if you find any type of irregularity on your skin, you should have it looked at as soon as possible. Early diagnosis and treatment for skin cancer is the best way to make sure the condition does not get any worse. Here at our Newport Beach practice we offer an array of effective photodynamic therapy treatments to target areas of sun damage and start treating the condition from beneath the skin. Photodynamic techniques use light and heat energy to stimulate the body’s own collagen and regrow healthy skin, replacing damaged skin cells. A serious of treatments over a short period of time often yields the best results, and can go a long way in preventing pre-cancerous skin lesions from developing into more serious conditions.
