Larry Silverberg, M.D., F.A.C.P., F.A.C.E.P.
Dr. Larry Silverberg was born and raised in Denver, Colorado and attended college and medical school at the University of Colorado. After a combined surgery and medicine internship in San Fransisco, he spent three years with the Indian Health Service at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center in Arizona. During that time, Dr. Silverberg helped to develop both the Family Practice and the Emergency Department in an effort to ensure better health care delivery to the Southwest Indian Tribes.
Dr. Silverberg underwent residency training at the University of Arizona where he specialized in General Internal Medicine. During residency, in addition to the usual curriculum, Dr. Silverberg choose additional electives in Geriatrics as well as outpatient Gynecology, Orthopedics, and Epidemiology. After residency, Dr. Silverberg was offered the position of Chief Resident – an honor offered to only one senior resident each year.
After residency, Dr. Silverberg joined the faculty at the University of Arizona in the Department of Family and Community Medicine. His activities included directing the in-patient ward service and intensive care unit as well as coordinating all internal medicine activities of the department. These activities included the development of electives for residents in Geriatrics, Behavioral Medicine, Critical Review of the Literature. Advanced Life Support and Arrhythmia training. While at the University of Arizona, Dr. Silverberg received the outstanding teacher award for residents from 1979-1983.
Dr. Silverberg left Arizona in 1983 after his wife was accepted into Dermatology residency in Southern California. He joined the faculty at UCLA and Cedars-Sinai where he was an assistant professor, attending on the ward as well as outpatient and emergency services.
In 1985 Dr. Silverberg accepted a position at the University of California-Irvine, as associate Dean of Student and Curricular Affairs. During his tenure, he was effective in initiating a number of innovative changes in medial education and was honored with an award for Outstanding Dean of Students. While at the University of California, Dr. Silverberg has been engaged in both research and the supervision of residents on the ward and emergency departments. His primary field of research involved sexually transmitted diseases. Dr. Silverberg has continued these activities since entering private practice.
Dr. Silverberg has been a guest lecturer at several universities and hospitals as well as community and civic organizations, and has appeared on several medial television talk shows. He has authored several publications in medical journals in the field of Primary Care and has received several awards from the University of California for excellence in Medical Education and Patient Care.
He is a member of the Orange County Medical Association and is an active consultant for the California Board of Medial Quality Assurance. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine. In addition he has subspecialty boards in Geriatrics and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Silverberg is also a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and The American College of Emergency Physicians.
Dr. Silverberg takes an all-inclusive, family medicine approach to the prevention and treatment of illness. He is adept not only in providing care in the acute or critical care setting, but also has expertise in the diagnosis and management of difficult in the outpatient setting. He can also provide care and do many office procedures for routine problems in dermatology, gynecology, orthopedics, ophthamolgy and ENT. Dr. Silverberg also has extensive experience in health care screening including flexible sigmoidoscopy for the early detection of colon cancer. Physiologic testing such as stress EKG’s and pulmonary function are also performed.
