Newport Beach Dermatologist Compares Laser Hair Removal to At-Home Treatments
Dr. Nancy Silverberg contrasts the benefits and disadvantages of common at-home hair reduction methods to state-of-the-art laser hair removal.
Newport Beach, CA — Examining how unwanted or excess body and facial hair can cause feelings of discomfort and embarrassment for her patients, Dr. Nancy Silverberg, a dermatologist in Newport Beach, recently scrutinized the differences between a variety of hair removal options. By comparing popular at-home hair removal treatments and laser hair removal systems, she says she discovered many discrepancies among the benefits of each method, most notably in regard to longevity of results.
In response, Dr. Silverberg recently posted a blog titled, “DIY Vs. Doc: Why You Should Choose Laser Hair Removal Over At-Home Treatments,” to assist individuals seeking information on hair removal options. By comparing ease of use, long-term effectiveness, and discomfort levels, she explains, more patients can determine which method will be right for them. One significant concern for many individuals, she says, is that both waxing and shaving can lead to ingrown hairs. Furthermore, all at-home methods are quite temporary, she discloses; however, laser hair removal typically offers permanent hair reduction on virtually any area of the body.
In addition to long-lasting results, Dr. Silverberg also discusses numerous other benefits of laser hair removal, particularly for residents of Southern California, in a another blog post. The ability to treat many skin types, effectiveness on larger areas, minimal discomfort, and little to no downtime are just a few of the advantages, she says. She also advises patients to complete the recommended number of treatment sessions for optimal results.
Hoping to help improve the comfort and self-confidence of her patients who enjoy active, healthy lifestyles, Dr. Silverberg endeavors to provide a safe, effective, and long-lasting solution for unwanted facial and body hair.
